Don't Reward Your Kids with Food

We have all done this at some point. Used food as a reward or punishment. Good behaviour means some junk food as a reward and bad behaviour means holding back their favourite food from them.

This means the child is eating empty calories even when he’s not hungry. Also, the concept of hunger and food goes for a toss. Imagine, bad behaviour followed by a bad example.

This does not mean we don’t reward our kids. There are other things you can use as bait.

A few things you can use to entice your child into completing certain tasks or behaving well are:

  • A surprise picnic
  • Extra storytime
  • A DIY gift
  • New art supplies
  • New bath toy
  • Playdate or sleepover
